On 8th of May was Guru Rabindranath Tagore’s Birth Anniversary.
I started in the morning for Jorasanko or Thakur Bari as it is known in Kolkata. Built in 1784, the house is named after Rabindranath Tagore’s father Maharishi Debendranath Tagore.
Guru was born and brought up here in the Thakurbari and with the passage of time, became the nerve center of Bengal’s cultural life in the 19th century.
Gurudev was a man of letters, a thinker, a philosopher, a painter and a lot more. His Mansion at Jorasanko has now been converted into a museum and the Rabindra Bharti University also functions from here. Besides his personal belongings, the mansion also has art gallery with Guru’s paintings as well as various souvenirs which he received throughout his life. There is also a huge collection of photographs displayed all over inside the building.
